She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was the wife of the late Norman Koepsell. She is survived by two sons, Norman Koepsell, Jr., and James Koepsell; three daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Krueger, Mrs. Nancy Miller and Miss Debra Koepsell; her son-in-law, James Krueger, all of the Town of Tonawanda; one brother, Kenneth A. Wheatfield Town Clerk Dies After Heart Attack
William F. Williams, 40, Born in North Tonawanda, Succumbed Last Night at His Home on Ward Road, St. Johnsburg. William F. Williams, 40 years old, one of the best known residents of the town of Wheatfield, died last night at his home on the Ward road, St. Johnsburg. His death followed a heart attack, with which he was stricken yesterday morning. Mr. Williams was born in North Tonawanda 40 years ago and had been a resident of Wheatfield for the last 30 years. He had been clerk of the town for the past ten years. He was a member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Department. He was a Democrat politically. Surviving are a wife, Louise; two sons, Edward and Roger Williams; a daughter, Miss Evelyn Williams; five brothers, Edmund and Walter Williams, St. Johnsburg, Alvin Williams, Newfane, Marcus and Helmuth Mellentine, St. Johnsburg, and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Achterburg, Pekin, Mrs. Louis Holland and Mrs. Louis Newman, North Tonawanda and Mrs. Henry Broecker, St. Johnsburg.

PROEFROCK - George J. Proefrock, 81, of North Tonawanda, Wednesday (February 2, 1977) a DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Proefrock was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, an Army veteran of World War I and former employee of DuPont, Niagara Falls, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Annamarie (nee Altmayer) Proefrock; a son, Robert G. (June) Proefrock of North Tonawanda, and a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Irene) Weiss of North Tonawanda; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, William Proefrock of North Tonawanda, and two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Weyers of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Louise Mentor of Sparks, Nev. The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Rd., North Tonawanda, Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m., the Rev. SCHUECKLER - Dorothy E. (nee Stolzenburg) Schueckler, 41, of 569 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, died Thursday evening (Feb. 4, 1960) in E. J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo, after a brief illness. Born in North Tonawanda, she had been a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Schueckler had been an employee of Twin-Ton Department Store for 25 years and was in charge of the Credit and Payroll Department. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Julius Stolzenburg of North Tonawanda, and several uncles and aunts. She was the wife of the late Theodore Schueckler and daughter of the late Julius Stolzenburg. Friends may call at the John O. Roth Funeral Home, Morgan and William Sts., Tonawanda, where services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Walter F. Hetzel officiating. Police search for girl's killer
State police were searching today for a Lewiston man whom they said witnesses identified as the killer of a young girl found shot to death on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation in Niagara County. Police identified the suspect as Murray Printup, 24, who they said is believed to still be somewhere in the area. The body of Angela Denef,17, of 5830 Buffalo Road, Sanborn, was found Thursday in a residence on Mount Hope Road, police said. She had been shot in the head. Police said two persons witnessed the shooting. Jealousy was listed by police as the motive for the shooting. The Niagara County coroner pronounced the girl dead at the scene and the body was moved to the Erie County Medical Center for an autopsy.

Services for Edward A. F. Mehls , a retired electrician, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cayuga Drive and Pershing Avenue, Niagara Falls. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria. Mehls , 72, of Townline Road, died Tuesday (June 23, 1992) in Veterans Hospital, Buffalo, after a long illness. A native of Niagara Falls, he moved to Ransomville in 1965. He was an electrician for Vanadium Corp. from 1939 to 1941, when he entered the Army. He attained the rank of corporal during World War II and returned to Vanadium in 1945. When Vanadium closed in 1960, Mehls joined the State Power Authority as an electrician, retiring in 1981. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; a son, Robert H. Strachen of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Patricia Ann Fechner; a sister, Verna Mehls of Niagara Falls; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Gladys M. Prudom , 81, who was active in several community groups, died Friday (Jan. 9, 1998) in the Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Medina. A native of Pendleton, the former Gladys M. Hasley was a member of Cheer Rebekah Lodge in Newfane and a past district deputy of the Rebekahs. She also was a member of Quaker Road United Methodist Church, Johnson Creek Senior Citizens, Newfane Grange 1292 and the auxiliaries of Aerie 825, Fraternal Order of Eagles, in Lockport and the Hartland Conservation Club of Newfane. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Herbert R.; two sons, Winston of Medina and Albert of Wisconsin; two daughters, Linda Wilson of Newfane and Lori Sue Hasley; two sisters, Leona Forth of Lockport and Alice Weinheimer of North Tonawanda; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.

A funeral service for Harold W. Korff , 81, of Ridge Road, a retired welder, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hardison Funeral Homes, North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria. He died Friday (Aug. 25, 1995) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. Korff was born in West Somerset and lived in Lewiston for the past 47 years. Prior to that, he resided in Niagara Falls. He was a 1933 graduate of Barker High School and attended Houghton College where he studied music. He worked as a welder for General Abrasives, Niagara Falls, for 42 years until retiring in 1978. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the 3-F Conservation Club, Lewiston. He enjoyed carpentry work, hunting and fishing. He was the husband of the former Doris A. Mehls. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary April 26. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Anne Baker of Lockport, Nancy Wright of Shortsville, Brenda Hale of Marion and Deborah Rose of Clifton, Va.; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

15 JACK MAHL DIES AT 76 - RADIO, TV ANNOUNCED

Retired radio and television announcer John F. "Jack" Mahl , who was known for his booming voice and his trademark sign-off, "That's all from Mahl ," died Sunday (May 18, 2003) in Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 76. He was a City of Tonawanda native and a 1944 graduate of Tonawanda High School. During the post-World War II occupation of Germany, he served as a communications sergeant with the Army's 78th Infantry Division in Bremen, where he worked as a special-events news announcer for Armed Forces Radio. His local radio announcing career began in 1946 at WHLD in Niagara Falls, where he worked as a staff announcer and news editor. He then worked as news editor and announced for WKBW radio in Buffalo from 1950 to 1953, hosting a late-night music program called "Spotlight Serenade." In the meantime, he received a bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo in 1952. From 1953 to 1968, he was staff announcer and television personality for WGR radio and TV. During that time, he was known as the "Atlantic Weatherman." Dressed as an Atlantic gas station attendant, he would end every segment with a salute as he said: "That's all from Mahl ." He was the midday news anchor at WEBR from 1976 to 1981 and then news director and afternoon news anchor at WBUF, where he acted as announcer for the "Mark Russell Comedy Special," which was televised nationally five times a year. Buffalo Broadcast Pioneers honored Mahl 's broadcasting service in 1997. In 2000, he was inducted into the Western New York Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Mahl ended his 55-year broadcasting career in 2001 when he retired from WNED-AM. A former resident of North Tonawanda, the Town of Tonawanda and Williamsville, he was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, City of Tonawanda, and a current member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Tonawanda. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, the former Barbara L. Strachan; a daughter, Lisa B. Blackley of Ashland, Ohio; four sons, John F. III of Greensburg, Pa., Dr. Thomas C. of Williamsville, Robert D. of Buffalo and Daniel J. of Cheektowaga; and seven grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Trinity Lutheran Church, 1570 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda. Private burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.

16 Jeanette B. Kroening, 81, of Sanborn, NY, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, April 30, 2010, at her residence, under the loving care of her family and Niagara Hospice. Jeanette was born November 1, 1928, in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, the daughter of the late Edwin and Alice (Williams) Beutel. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Pekin. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed flower gardening. Jeanette is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry A. Kroening, whom she married on November 27, 1946; her children, Joyce Kroening of North Tonawanda, Daniel (Lois) Kroening of Wilson, Carl (Donna) Kroening of Sanborn, Lee (Debra) Kroening of Amherst, Diane Parker of Sanborn, and Donna Kroening of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren, Alicia (Ryan), Jeremy, Justin, Andrew, Matthew, Rachel, Michelle, Ashley, Lauren, Jessica, Jennifer, Kristina, and Joseph; two step-grandchildren, Teresa and Gina; and three step-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Julian and Nico; sister of Beatrice (Robert) White, LeRoy (Thea) Beutel, James (Pauline) Beutel, Edwin (Janet) Beutel, Audrey (Carl) Matarrese and Donald Beutel; sister-in-law of Dolores Beutel and Patricia Beutel; niece of Betty Williams. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeanette was the mother of the late Jean and Lynn; sister of the late Eugene, Allen and Kenneth; and sister-in-law of the late Susan Beutel and Helen Beutel. 17 Mark Donald Kroening, age 44, went to his heavenly home on Thursday December 6, 2007, in Roswell Park Institute after a brief illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on March 11, 1963, the son of Jane (Wendt) Kroening and the late Edgar Kroening. Mark grew up on the family farm in the Town of Wheatfield and had been employed by the United Parcel Service for the last 20 years. Mark was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish with his sons in the great outdoors. He also took a special interest in basketball, baseball and bowling. He had participated in athletics throughout his life as both a player and coach. He was the Niagara-Orleans leading point scorer for the 1980-81 basketball season. Mark was an active and contributing member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Sanborn, New York, where he attended school through 8th grade. Mark was a 1981 graduate of Starpoint High School. Upon graduation he worked at Voss Tool while he helped to run the family farm. Mark will be remembered for his strong commitment to his family and church, and he was best known for his happy personality and special ability to get those around him to laugh. Surviving in addition to his mother is his beloved wife of 20 years, the former Darla Walck; three sons Tyler, Matthew, and Brock, sister Brenda (Rick) Kline, and brother Gerald (Linda) Kroening; mother and father-in-law Gilbert and Carol Walck; brothers-in-law, Randy Walck (Amy), and Gary Walck; nieces and nephews, Heather (Bob) Tubbs, Jamie (Todd) Conklin, Jason, Lindsay Kroening, Sara, Katie and Luke Walck along with several aunts, uncles and numerous extended family and friends. Mary E. Gandt , a former clothing store employee, died Thursday (Sept. 14, 2000) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She was 85. Born Mary Scotland in Niagara Falls, she graduated from St. Mary 's High School. She had worked for a brief time for Feldman Furs and many years ago worked for the Robert Hall clothing store. Mrs. Gandt was a member of St. Mary of the Cataract Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and writing poetry. She was the widow of Frederick Gandt . She is survived by two sons, Frederick C. of Manassas, Va., and James of Ransomville; two daughters, Patricia Janis and Mary Brockway; three sisters, Jane Badgley of Summerville, S.C., Ruth Burns and Betty Walerowicz; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259 Fourth St., after prayers at 8:45 in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.

20 NIAGARA FALLS - Elfriede Heuer died Thursday in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home, Lewiston, after a long illness. She was 89. She was born Elfriede Boes in Dusseldorf, Germany. Her family emigrated to the United States and settled in Niagara Falls when she was 8 years old. She attended Niagara Falls High School and the former Trott Vocational High School. Mrs. Heuer was a clerical worker for about six years at the Niagara County Social Services Department. She also worked for Vanadium Corp., Titanium Alloys Manufacturing Co. and the former Beir's department store. She moved to Eustis, Fla., in 1980 and lived there for 18 years before returning to Niagara Falls. Her husband of 45 years, Norman F., died in January 1983. Survivors include a son, Richard of Medina, Ohio; a daughter, Norma Costo of Niagara Falls; five grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield.

ELFRIEDE HEUER Elfriede Heuer (Boes), age 89, of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 28, 2005 while at the facility. Born in Dusseldorf, Germany on October 20, 1915 to the late Adolph and Johanna (Spahn) Boes. She came to Niagara Falls, NY at the age of eight. She attended Niagara Falls High School and also Trott Vocational School. On October 9, 1937 she was united in marriage to Norman F. Heuer. He died in January of 1983. She was employed with Niagara County Department of Social Services. A member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Survivors include a son, Richard (Patricia) Heuer. of , Medina, OH; a daughter, Norma (Richard) Costo of Niagara Falls; five grandsons, four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Sunday from 1-2 PM with services following at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Hoecker officiating. Former Resident of North Side Dies
Mrs. Bertha Andrees, nee Messing, 72 years old, former resident of North Tonawanda, died suddenly at her home in Ransomville this morning. She was the wife of the late Henry Andrees. Surviving are two sons, William , Ransomville, and Edward, Niagara Falls; five daughters, Mrs. George Burmaster, Mrs. Fred Rader and Miss Lena Andrees, Ransomville, Mrs. Victor Sattelberg, North Tonawanda, and Mrs. Marvin Voelker, Niagara Falls; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Proefrock and Mrs. William Kinzly, North Tonawanda. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence and half an hour later at St. Peter's Lutheran church, North Ridge, where burial will take place.

24 WHEATFIELD - Richard D. Kowalik, a retired truck driver, died Thursday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after suffering a heart attack at home. He was 59. Mr. Kowalik was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara-Wheatfield Senior High School. He worked as a truck driver, first for Modern Disposal of Lewiston and later for Robinson & Long Paving and Midland Asphalt of the City of Tonawanda. He also did metal fabrication work. Mr. Kowalik was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and Chapter 1517 of the IOOB Club. He enjoyed hunting. Survivors include his wife, the former Kathleen N. Wurl; his son, Timothy, of Wheatfield; his daughter, Amy Zastrow, of Albion; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. 25 WHEATFIELD - Winifred Proefrock, a talented Danish needle painter, died Wednesday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 81. Born Winifred Milleville in Wheatfield, she attended St. James Lutheran School and was a life member of St. James Lutheran Church and its Women of the Church, quilters and choir. She also taught Sunday school for more than 25 years. Mrs. Proefrock was a member of the Bergholz Historical Society. She worked in production at an area factory during World War II. Her husband, Harold A., died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Haniszewski of Pendleton; a brother, Richard Milleville of Bergholz; four sisters, Florence Mielke of Wheatfield, Beatrice Nehrboss of Akron, Janice Kysor of Lewiston and Alice Lange of Wheatfield; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. James Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

WINIFRED L. PROEFROCK
Winifred L Proefrock (Milleville), age 81 of Nash Road, Wheatfield, was called unexpectedly to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on October 9, 1923 to the late Hugo and Beata (Mueller) Milleville. She attended St. James Lutheran Parochial School in Bergholz as a child and was an active life long member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, where she was a member of The Women of the Church, the quilters, a choir member and taught Sunday School for over 25 years. Winifred was also a member of the Bergholz Historical Society, and was a talented Danish needle painter. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne (husband Norman) Haniszewski of Pendleton; three grandchildren, Mark, Sarah and Laura Haniszewski; six great-grandchildren, Rebecca, David, Renee, Melissa, Elizabeth and Krystan; a brother, Richard Milleville; four sisters, Florence Mielke, Beatrice Nehrboss, Janice Kysor and Alice Lang (sic); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Proefrock on May 27, 1990; and three brothers, Erwin, Alfred and Donald Milleville. Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.. Services will be conducted by the Rev. David B. Menz on Saturday, April 30th, at 11:00 AM in St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Rohr Street in Bergholz. An hour of viewing/visitation will take place in the church prior to the start of the service. Interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Niagara Hospice, or memorial of your choice.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear devoted mother, Alice C. (nee Gordon) Haseley. She went to be with the Lord, and our father, Raymond, the love of her life, on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born on September 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Harrott) Gordon. Alice was born in the city of Niagara Falls, where as a young girl, she was employed at Belbot's and worked in the accounting department for her aunt and uncle, Alice and Walter Belbot. In 1946, she married our father, Raymond E. Haseley. They moved from the city out to the country on Lockport Road, where they raised 13 children, in addition to her younger brother, Gary Gordon. Although a full house, family and friends were always welcome. She gave true meaning to the saying, "enter as friends and leave as family." Her sweetness and kindness to everyone who entered our home will always be remembered. She truly exhibited the most abundant love to all and found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities. Alice was a lifelong and active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, until its closing. She joined St. James Lutheran Church, and became a member of the church community. Alice was also a member of Ladies Home Bureau, and in her younger years, enjoyed bowling. Alice is survived by her children, Brent (Debbie) Haseley, Glenn (Bonnie) Haseley, Kevin (Lori) Haseley, Jeff (Kathy) Haseley, Greg (MaryEllen) Haseley, Brenda (late Jeff) Marohn, Joyce (Bill) Schimschack, Debbie (John) Galleciez, Barbara (late Bruce) Haseley, Bob (Dale) Haseley and Russell (Sue) Haseley; daughter-in-law, Sharen Haseley; grandchildren, Kasey, Keith, Brent, Genna, Ella, Deanna, Lindsey, Ryan, Kevin, Tony, Steve, Jolene, Bryan, Deena, Dave, Michael, Jennifer, John, Michelle, Stacy, Rhonda, Shawn, Kristen, Ken and Gordie; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Doris (late William) Davis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by son, Gordon (Sharen) Haseley; daughter, Sandra (late Don) Slusser; grandson, Matthew; brothers, Edward (late Ruth) and Gary Gordon; and daughter-in-laws, Vickie and Barbara Haseley. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the 1st floor nurses and staff at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility for their wonderful and loving care of our mother, and kindness extended to our family. Visitation will be on Thursday from 7-9 PM and on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, in the Town of Niagara. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, February 10th at 9:30 AM which will be celebrated in St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road in Bergholz. 29 "North Tonawanda, Aug. 14 -- The funeral of Frederick W. Lubs, killed in the Argonne forest offensive October 25, 1918, was conducted this afternoon with military honors. The American Legion post was in charge. Services were conducted of Lubs' brother, William Lubs, No. 1110 Oliver street, at 12:30 o'clock and half an hour later at the St Paul's church, the Rev.
