Kroening, 15, of Upper Mountain Road, . former Town. of Cambria supervisor, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 1997) in Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after being struck by an automobile. He was responding to the scene of an automobile accident with the Cambria Fire Co. on North Ridge Road near Church Road, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle while crossing the street. He was born Oct. 28. 1922, in Niagara Falls, the son of Elmer and Elsie (Walck) Kroening. He and his family moved to Sanborn when he was an infant. Bush described Kroening. “Farmers don't really talk between the lines,” he said, adding that Kroening had approached him years ago to serve on the town's Recreation Commission. Even though Bush just said he would think about it, the next thing he knew, he had been appointed. Although Kroening wore a pacemaker and had some health problems the past few years, his wife said “you couldn't keep him from doing things” as he still loved riding his tractor and helping out others.
