- Head of Lockport Store Succumbs
LOCKPORT - William F. Williams, 74, president of Williams Brothers company department 'store, died unexpectedly shortly after noon today just after he had arrived at the Tuscarora club to attend a Rotary club luncheon. Dr. Lyman H. Wheeler, health officer, said death was due to embolism. Prominent for many years in Lockport's business, financial and club life, Mr. Williams was born in the Town of Wheatfield, a son of the late Gustave H. and Christine Lange Williams. He attended the Walmore school and moved with his parents to Lockport at an early age. He was first employed in the John A. Mack hardware store and then became associated with his uncles, William A. and Albert F. Williams, in the Williams Brothers department store. He was connected with the Williams company for more than 50 years and for the last 15 years was president of the company. He was a director of the Lockport Exchange Trust company; a trustee of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank; a director of the Lockport Savings and Loan association. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Chapman Williams; four brothers, Albert P., Hugo F. and Robert A., all members of the Williams Brothers firm, and Edward F., of Sanborn, N. Y.
